Summary
I bought the camera for its size to carry on my belt and for use as a backup to my D80. It's a nice little camera that takes good pictures. I like having it on my belt and it being so slim, that I forget its there until I need it. The leather case that comes with it is also nice, because it has a magnetic closure, rather than velco.
Strengths
Size, slim body, decent pixel count, simple menus, large screen, compactness
Weaknesses
I have found that it takes two hands to operate if you want to use the zoom control for example, you need the other hand to brace the camera.
I bought the camera because it had optical stabilization, but found out its electronic stabilization, which creates a grainy picture, too grainy for actuall use. But I'm still experimenting with this feature. I believe optical stabilization may be better, it is found on other nikon models.
I do miss an optical viewfinder, but that's the way compact digital cameras are going now days.
Similar Products Used
I have a Canon A80 that I use as an everyday backup. Although it was small when it first came out, it was kind of big to carry on my belt. I used that camera as a backup when I'm only carrying one Nikon digital SLR body.
Now I have the S200 and it's comforting to know I always have a backup. I would recommend a backup battery also for everyday carry.
