Summary
Excellent camera. It's small and easy to carry around in a pocket or a camera bag on your belt. I have it set on automatic and the shots are great.

My hobby is RC airplanes and I take pictures of planes and pilots. I do a lot of flying myself, so a large SLR is impractical to carry around and hard to watch while I am flying.

The Canon 790 is my 4th digital camera and my first pocket sized one. It is handy and I love the large LCD. It doesn't have a through the lens view finder so it is harder to get good shots of planes in the air, but at the largest size, I can crop for some nice results.

The menus are different from my previous Panasonic and Sony so I have that learning curve. Once you find what you want a couple of times, it becomes pretty easy, just diffrent from the other cameras.

I have fairly large hands and I haven't had any trouble holding it or shooting pictures. I do use the wrist strap all the time.

This is my first Canon and I can see why they are best sellers.

Strengths
Excellent pictures that are large enough to crop and still have good printed results.

Many, many features and a large detailed menu, exerything you need.

Small light and easy to carry.

Battery seems to last a long time.

Weaknesses
Many, many features and a large detailed menu. I know I also said this is a strength, but this camera has so much you could take a month learning how to use all the features for best results. My hobby isn't cameras, so I mostly use auto.
